Explainable Ensemble Learning for Financial Risk Prediction and Strategic Investment Decision-Making

Financial markets and investment environments are increasingly influenced by uncertainty, market volatility, corporate financial distress, credit risk, and rapidly changing economic conditions. Accurate financial risk prediction is therefore essential for investors, financial institutions, corporate managers, and portfolio decision-makers. Conventional statistical models provide valuable forecasting capabilities but often struggle to capture nonlinear relationships within high-dimensional financial datasets. Explainable ensemble learning offers an advanced analytical approach by combining multiple machine-learning models with interpretable prediction techniques to improve both predictive performance and transparency. This study examines the application of explainable ensemble learning for financial risk prediction and strategic investment decision-making through a literature-based conceptual analysis. The reviewed studies demonstrate the relevance of ensemble learning, multivariate financial analytics, explainable artificial intelligence, federated learning, adaptive prediction, feature selection, and intelligent financial decision-support systems. An integrated conceptual framework is proposed in which financial data are processed through ensemble predictive models, followed by explainability analysis that identifies influential financial indicators supporting investment and risk-management decisions. The study indicates that explainable ensemble learning can strengthen financial forecasting, improve the interpretation of risk signals, support portfolio monitoring, and enhance strategic investment planning. However, the effectiveness of such systems depends on data quality, appropriate model validation, interpretability, and responsible human decision-making.
